Japan Original Pressing.
A true ground zero of Japanese psychedelic rock — raw, acid-soaked 1969 heavy psych tearing through Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane and Big Brother & The Holding Company before the birth of Flower Travellin’ Band.
Challenge! captures the exact moment Japanese Group Sounds began mutating into something heavier, louder and far more dangerous. Led by Yuya Uchida and fronted by the fierce voice of Remi Aso, The Flowers attack contemporary psychedelic standards by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane and Big Brother & The Holding Company with raw guitars, pounding drums and a distinctly Japanese sense of urgency.
“Greasy Heart” is especially vicious, “Summertime” burns with psychedelic tension, while “Hey Joe” and “Stone Free” push deep into fuzz-heavy acid rock. The lone group original, “Hidariashi no Otoko,” already points toward something beyond a simple cover band.
And this is one of those records where the original pressing really matters. The 1969 sound is huge, rough and almost overloaded — thick bass, blown-out guitars and drums that feel pushed right to the edge of the recording. Reissues can reproduce the music, but this original Nippon Columbia pressing carries a physical weight and rawness that belongs to the record itself.
Not simply an early Japanese rock rarity, but a crucial bridge from Group Sounds to New Rock — and the explosive prehistory of Flower Travellin’ Band. Original 1969 Nippon Columbia first pressing.

About the Condition
| Grade | Description |

| VG+ (Very Good Plus) | Minor wear, light surface noise, no major flaws — a solid average used copy. |
| VG (Very Good) | Visible wear and surface noise. Plays through without skipping. |
| G+ (Good Plus) | Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable. |
+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).
We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
