One of the most highly regarded Japanese city-pop debuts — the album runs deep into black contemporary shades, but stays bright and melodic throughout. Funk-driven cuts like “Snob na Yoru e,” “Tobashite Taxi Man,” and “Kaiten Tobira” sit perfectly next to pure Hayashi city-pop moments such as “Koi no Yokogao” and “Just a Joke,” with “Love Song” as a standout ballad. A no-filler LP, carried by Kokubu’s youthful yet assured vocals.
