A hidden late-80s Japanese pop gem arranged entirely by Masaaki Ohmura. Crystal-clear vocals, sophisticated synths, fusion touches, and the beautiful night-time groove of “Koimachi Tsukiyo.”

Believe In is much deeper than its innocent debut-album image suggests. Masaaki Ohmura’s sophisticated arrangements bring together bright synth-pop, mellow AOR colors and subtle fusion grooves, while Yumi Tanimura’s clear voice floats beautifully above it all. “Not For Sale” is sharp and rhythmically rich, but “Koimachi Tsukiyo” is the real hidden beauty, with a dreamy late-night atmosphere that should appeal immediately to deeper city-pop listeners. An overlooked 1987 LP that deserves far more attention.
