A landmark 1984 Japanese ambient / percussion work — ritualistic gamelan rhythms, field recordings and acoustic textures created for Sankai Juku’s Butoh performance in Paris.
Created for Sankai Juku’s Butoh performance in Paris, Jomon-sho is one of Yas-Kaz’s defining works. After studying Balinese gamelan in the ’70s, he built this extraordinary sound world entirely from acoustic instruments, percussion and field recordings — without sequencers.
Hypnotic rhythms, bamboo winds, metallic resonance and natural sounds move between gamelan, ritual music, ambient and avant-garde. “Jungle Book” and “Relation Between Bisons, Bananas And Rods – The Previous Night” are especially striking, balancing deep tribal groove with an almost weightless sense of space.
A foundational and still deeply mysterious piece of Japanese environmental music.

| G+ (Good Plus) | Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable. |
+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).
We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
