Yuku Efu Mei is best framed not as a straight jazz record, nor simply as new wave, but as a restless Japanese leftfield work where multiple scenes crash into each other at once. Led by Shuichi Chino and pushed by a formidable cast including Kazutoki Umezu, Koichi Matsukaze, Takayuki Hijikata, and Shuichi Murakami, the album moves through angular rhythm, off-center groove, and raw ensemble force with a sharp avant-garde edge. It feels tense, physical, and hard to classify in the best way.
