Caution! is one of Shigeru Suzuki’s most sophisticated albums, moving beyond the raw funk of Band Wagon and tropical mood of Lagoon into sleek late-70s Japanese AOR and city-pop territory. “Rainy Station” is the masterpiece, backed by Haruomi Hosono, Tatsuo Hayashi and Masataka Matsutoya, but the whole album is loaded with beautifully understated groove and Suzuki’s unmistakable guitar tone. With Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tsugutoshi Goto, Kenji Takamizu, Jun Sato and Nobu Saito also involved, this is essentially an all-star session from the golden era of Japanese studio music.
