Japan Original Pressing.

One of the defining works of Japanese environmental music — harp, piano, vibraphone and flute suspended in silence, creating music that seems to change the air of the room itself.

Released in 1982 as Wave Notation 2, Still Way is Satoshi Ashikawa’s singular masterpiece — music conceived not as something to dominate a room, but as something that quietly becomes part of it.

There are no sweeping synthesizer pads here. Harp, piano, vibraphone and flute appear one note at a time, surrounded by enormous amounts of space. On “Landscape Of Wheels” and “Still Park – Ensemble,” repetition moves almost imperceptibly; “Still Sky” reduces the music even further, while “Image Under The Tree” feels like light, shadow and air translated into sound. Midori Takada’s vibraphone and piano are central to the album’s extraordinary sense of balance.

The silence between the notes is as important as the notes themselves. Rather than asking for attention, Still Way subtly changes the way you hear the space around you — the essence of Ashikawa’s idea of music as landscape and environment.

Quiet, radical and almost weightless. Not simply a Japanese ambient classic, but one of the clearest statements of what environmental music can be. Original 1982 Sound Process pressing.

About the Condition

Grade Description
S (Sealed) Still sealed in factory wrap. Never played.
M (Mint) Perfect condition. Looks unplayed with no signs of use. Typically used for records that are brand new or opened but never played.
EX (Excellent) Very clean. May have light scuffs or hairline marks, but plays perfectly.
VG+ (Very Good Plus) Minor wear, light surface noise, no major flaws — a solid average used copy.
VG (Very Good) Visible wear and surface noise. Plays through without skipping.
G+ (Good Plus) Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable.

+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).

We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
