Salon Music remain a cult name in Japanese alternative music, with Zin Yoshida closely connected to Flipper’s Guitar, The Pillows and Cornelius. Even the title nods to UK post-punk band Girls At Our Best!, whose “Pleasure” is covered here, while Cornelius contributes the “Galaxie Express 69 Mix” and Hideki Kaji appears on backing vocals.
Wiry UK guitar pop, shoegaze haze and playful studio experimentation run throughout. Originally compiled in 1998, this rare 1999 vinyl-only Trattoria edition is far more than a simple best-of — it is one of the essential ways to hear Salon Music’s brilliant ’90s period on analog.
