One of Sadao Watanabe’s essential 70s fusion albums. Breezy West Coast grooves, Brazilian and percussive touches, and an incredible L.A. session lineup.

California Shower is one of the records that made Sadao Watanabe’s sound truly international. Recorded in Los Angeles with Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Chuck Rainey, Harvey Mason, Paulinho Da Costa, and Ernie Watts, it blends silky jazz-fusion with warm West Coast groove and colorful percussion. The title track is an obvious classic, while “Seventh High” and “Ngoma Party” dig deeper into the album’s rhythmic side. Bright, sophisticated, and endlessly playable, this is essential Japanese mellow fusion.
