Japan Original Pressing. First Press! Very Rare Promo White Label

1976 East Wind fusion debut — Ryo Kawasaki “Prism,” NYC session with Phil Clendeninn & Steve Turre.

Recorded in one afternoon at Vanguard Studio, New York on July 12, 1975 and released in Japan in 1976 on East Wind (EW-8027), “Prism” is Ryo Kawasaki’s first fusion LP after moving to NYC. The lineup is lean and potent: Kawasaki (eg), Phil Clendeninn (Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, ARP), Herb Bushler (b), Buddy Williams (ds), Abdulah (congas), and Steve Turre (shells, perc). Tracks like “Agana,” “Joni,” and the heavy “Nogie” pair crisp drum beds with synth-tinted textures; mini interludes “Bridge: Sun/Moon/Star” add sequencing flow. Originals came on East Wind in Japan, with a 1978 US issue on Inner City. For selectors: tight intros and open drum-bass pockets make “Agana,” “Phil,” and “Sweet Tears” very mixable; “Nogie” is the mutant jazz-rock workout deep diggers cite.

About the Condition

Grade Description
S (Sealed) Still sealed in factory wrap. Never played.
M (Mint) Perfect condition. Looks unplayed with no signs of use. Typically used for records that are brand new or opened but never played.
EX (Excellent) Very clean. May have light scuffs or hairline marks, but plays perfectly.
VG+ (Very Good Plus) Minor wear, light surface noise, no major flaws — a solid average used copy.
VG (Very Good) Visible wear and surface noise. Plays through without skipping.
G+ (Good Plus) Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable.

+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).

We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
