A hidden 1973 gem from Reiko Nishi of NHK’s Young 101, with Yuji Ohno playing a major role as composer and arranger alongside Osamu Shoji, Kunihiko Murai and others.
What looks like a modest female vocal album goes surprisingly deep: “Akuruhi” mixes sweet Japanese pop with soulful female chorus, “Itsuka Dareka to” carries a sophisticated jazzy swing, while “Mizuiro no Tsubuyaki” closes the album with an almost progressive, cinematic atmosphere.
Beautifully arranged, slightly mysterious and far more adventurous than its cover suggests — a fascinating early Yuji Ohno-related record.
