A radically rearranged Naomi Chiaki album—experimental, wave-tinged, and far beyond kayokyoku expectations.
This is not a straightforward kayokyoku album at all. Built from prewar and postwar Japanese standards, Minato ga Mieru Oka pushes them into a far stranger space through bold arrangements by Nobuo Kurata and Masahiro Takekawa. Spacious machine rhythms, sparse synth lines, sound effects, and wave-like programming give parts of the album an unexpectedly experimental feel—so much so that it reportedly alienated some long-time Naomi Chiaki fans, while later listeners came to hear it as something far more radical and fresh.
