Released in 1982, Kyousoukyoku stands at a sharp intersection of Japanese new wave, chanson-like art pop, and theatrical songwriting. With Moonriders fully involved and key writing from figures such as Keiichi Suzuki, Yukihiro Takahashi, Kenji Omura, and Shuji Terayama, the album carries a staged, decadent atmosphere rather than straightforward pop brightness, giving Mariko Fuji’s voice a tense, dramatic setting throughout.
