Izumi Kobayashi (aka MIMI)’s 1981 solo debut, released after the Flying Mimi Band era. Known for her work with Masayoshi Takanaka’s band, Parachute, and for composing anime music (including Urusei Yatsura), she’s been rediscovered in recent years by wamo/fusion collectors.
Recorded across four studios in Japan and the US, with a heavyweight guest list: Masayoshi Takanaka (guitar), Tower of Power (horns), and Harvey Mason (drums). From the samba-fusion sweetness of “Palm St.” to the thick funk instrumental “Penaten” and the groove-driven “Coconuts High,” it’s a true masterpiece of mixed, borderless fusion.
