Moonlight Singing is Issei Okamoto’s 1978 debut album, and it deserves more attention from Japanese city-pop and light-mellow listeners. The mood is lonely, jazzy, and softly urban, with “Moon Magic” arranged by Tatsuro Yamashita and “Nigemichi” / “Machi no Seikatsu” arranged by Hiroshi Sato. With players like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, Tatsuo Hayashi, and Pecker involved, this is much deeper than a simple singer-songwriter LP.
