This Boy is one of the best ways to experience Hiroshi Satoh’s sophisticated 80s sound, and it offers much more than a standard compilation. Alongside classics like “Shiny Lady,” “I Can’t Wait,” and the Tatsuro Yamashita-assisted “Say Goodbye,” it includes three newly recorded tracks, “Kioku no Naka no Mirai kara,” “Gemini,” and his beautiful cover of The Beatles’ “This Boy,” plus the specially re-recorded “Sweet Inspiration ’85.” Silky synths, drum-machine grooves, mellow soul, and immaculate production from beginning to end. An essential Hiroshi Satoh LP with its own reason to own it, even if you already have Awakening and Sailing Blaster.
