Comments:
City-pop grail—silky keys, airy Wendy Matthews vocals, midnight-glow grooves.
1982 Japan Original Pressing. — Victor first press. Not the later Warner pressing, not a reissue. First-run mastering, period-correct EQ and dynamics. Plays clean; sleeve shows only light foxing.
Released in 1982 on Alfa (ALR-28036), Awakening is Hiroshi Sato’s masterpiece: self-programmed drums and synths, glossy keys, and guest guitars from Tatsuro Yamashita (B5), Yuji Toriyama (B1), and Tsunehide Matsuki (A3/B2). Canadian-Australian singer Wendy Matthews floats across five cuts (“You’re My Baby,” “Only A Love Affair,” “I Can’t Wait,” “It Isn’t Easy,” “Say Goodbye”), giving the record its unmistakable midnight sheen. Mastered by Toru Kotetsu with photography by Steve Hiett, it’s front-to-back perfection that selectors love for its tidy structures and mid-tempo flow—especially “Blue And Moody Music” and closer “Say Goodbye.”

About the Condition
About the Condition
Grade | Description |
---|---|
S (Sealed) | Still sealed in factory wrap. Never played. |
M (Mint) | Perfect condition. Looks unplayed with no signs of use. Typically used for records that are brand new or opened but never played. |
EX (Excellent) | Very clean. May have light scuffs or hairline marks, but plays perfectly. |
VG+ (Very Good Plus) | Minor wear, light surface noise, no major flaws — a solid average used copy. |
VG (Very Good) | Visible wear and surface noise. Plays through without skipping. |
G+ (Good Plus) | Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable. |
+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).
We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
