Japan Original Pressing.

A superb 1979 Japanese AOR crossover — Hiromi Go leaves conventional kayō-pop behind and heads straight to New York, backed throughout by Hiram Bullock, Will Lee, Steve Jordan and Clifford Carter of The 24th Street Band.

Super Drive catches Hiromi Go at a fascinating turning point. Recorded in New York for his first overseas recording session, the entire album is powered by The 24th Street Band — Hiram Bullock on guitar, Will Lee on bass, Steve Jordan on drums and Clifford Carter on keyboards — with Mitsuo Hagita shaping the whole record through his sophisticated arrangements.

The difference is immediately audible. “Feel Like Goin’ Home” rides an effortlessly smooth rhythm section, “Irie nite” is pure late-night mellow AOR, while “Yoasobi” and “Chiheisen no Mieru Toki” reveal a tighter, funkier side of the album. With songs by Tetsuji Hayashi and Yoshino Fujimaru, Japanese songwriting meets the feel and precision of late-’70s New York session playing.

This is far more than an idol album dressed in City Pop clothing. The groove is real, the musicianship is exceptional, and the sound sits naturally between Japanese pop, West Coast AOR and New York fusion. One of the most rewarding deep cuts in Hiromi Go’s catalog.

About the Condition

Grade Description
S (Sealed) Still sealed in factory wrap. Never played.
M (Mint) Perfect condition. Looks unplayed with no signs of use. Typically used for records that are brand new or opened but never played.
EX (Excellent) Very clean. May have light scuffs or hairline marks, but plays perfectly.
VG+ (Very Good Plus) Minor wear, light surface noise, no major flaws — a solid average used copy.
VG (Very Good) Visible wear and surface noise. Plays through without skipping.
G+ (Good Plus) Heavily used. Significant wear or scratches, but still playable.

+ / − may be added to indicate slight variations (e.g. VG+, EX−).

We visually inspect every record, and we clean each one before shipping (play-testing when needed). Even new or great-looking vinyl—especially some Japanese pressings—can have light background noise. We grade carefully by eye and ear, but it’s still a human call, so please check the notes before buying.
