Released in 1980 in Japan on CBS/Sony, Northern Scene pairs singer-songwriter Hiroaki Igarashi’s youthful hooks with arrangements by Shigeru Suzuki, whose tasteful guitars and rhythm direction give the album its airy, road-movie feel. Producer Mitsuo Takaku keeps the sound tight and radio-ready, while engineer Tetsuro Tomita captures a bright, low-noise mix typical of Shinanomachi-era CBS/Sony work. The result is an easy-breezy set that sits between city-pop and AOR: coastal mid-tempos, soft-focus ballads, and slick band interplay. Highlights include the driving opener on Side A and the mellow AOR cut “Milk Lady” on Side B—both with loopable intros and clean rhythm guitar that work well for DJ blends or sampling.
