Originally released only in Japan in 1981 — a highly sought-after West Coast AOR masterpiece where Muscle Shoals soul meets silky harmonies, mellow funk and immaculate songwriting.

One of the great Japan-only stories in AOR. Recorded at Wishbone Studio in Muscle Shoals, An Eye For An Eye was planned for the U.S. but never released there, appearing instead exclusively on Japan’s Climax label in 1981 — and remaining the only album by Robert Byrne and Brandon Barnes.

Produced by Clayton Ivey and Terry Woodford, the album blends laid-back Muscle Shoals musicianship with sophisticated West Coast AOR, blue-eyed soul and mellow funk. “Love You Out Of Your Mind” is pure floating perfection, while “Keep On Running,” “Crack The Whip” and the title track show just how deep the record goes.

Smooth, soulful and beautifully written — an American AOR masterpiece that Japan alone originally had the foresight to release.
