20 Personalities is not a standard jazz record, and that is exactly the point. Akira Sakata moves between singing, speech, comedy, rhythm-box sketches, and avant-garde vocal performance, turning the album into a strange one-man theatre of sound. It is playful, absurd, sometimes unsettling, and completely outside the usual Japanese jazz lane. A deep pick for listeners into experimental vocals, spoken word, leftfield jazz, and truly odd Wamono records.
