Cruise is one of Akina Nakamori’s key late-80s albums, recorded in New York and shaped with a cooler, more mature urban sound. “LIAR” is the obvious highlight, but the album as a whole leans into smooth city-pop, adult contemporary, and late-night vocal drama. Rather than pure idol pop, this is Akina in a darker, more refined mode, with her voice carrying the tension and elegance of the record.
