Sitting between Tokyo Special and Butterfly, this 1978 album catches Kimiko Kasai in a deeper crossover zone. The title track opens with glossy disco momentum, but what really gives the record weight is the personnel around her: Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton, Bennie Maupin, Paul Jackson, Bill Summers, and the Waters Family, all brought together under Dale Warren’s direction. “Chameleon” is the obvious headline, but the album holds up as a full listen rather than a one-track record. This is not just a jazz vocal LP. It is a Japanese crossover album with real U.S. jazz-funk muscle behind it.
