Comments:
Japan Original Pressing.
Originally issued as an elementary “music education” program by Holp, this 11-LP collection is really an audio archive of 1970s Japan: jazz sessions, modern composition, spoken-word, choir, folk/leftfield elements, and studio performances—each volume opening a different door into sound.
The credits are the clue that this is not a normal kids record. Names like Masahiko Satoh, Minako Yoshida, Norio Maeda, Takeshi Shibuya, Akira Miyazawa, Jimmy Takeuchi, George Otsuka Quintet, Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, Masao Yagi and more appear across the series—serious musicians captured in unusual contexts you won’t find on standard albums.
A standout example is Vol.5 “Boku no Ginga Tetsudo,” where poem reading and environmental textures lead into Minako Yoshida on piano + vocals for Miyazawa Kenji’s “Hoshi Meguri no Uta,” then flips into bold contrasts like choir meeting a jazz combo. That educational-yet-artistic sequencing is exactly what makes this set special.
