Released on Yen Records, the imprint Yukihiro Takahashi co-ran with Haruomi Hosono, April Fish plays far beyond a typical soundtrack. It moves from Takahashi’s witty, esprit-driven instrumental pop to retro Ryōichi Hattori-style touches, then drifts into Erik Satie-like ambient cues — yet the sequencing is so tight it lands as one cohesive album from start to finish. The whole record is strong, but the peak is still A1: a glowing synth-pop opener with lyrics co-written with Pierre Barouh, building into an emotional lift full of bright momentum and pure feel-good euphoria. First press comes with the original poster insert, too.
