I honestly can’t believe Chiaki Naomi ever released a record like this… absolutely unreal!
Naomi Chiaki’s 1985 Invitation LP “Minato ga Mieru Oka” flips pre- and post-war Showa standards into a mid-80s leftfield dream. Backed by Moonriders family Masahiro Takekawa, Tohru Okada, Ryoji Shirai and Saeko Suzuki, her dramatic kayokyoku vocal floats over programmed drums, glassy synths and huge echo – more late-night jazz singer in a neon city than nostalgia act. A2 “Ame ni Saku Hana” and the B-side run from “Seishun no Paradise” to “Hawaii no Yoru” are pure sample fuel: machine rhythms, minimal synth hooks and vapor-like ambience that DJs and beatmakers can drop between city pop and underground dance cuts without losing the floor. Honestly, it’s so dope I almost kept it instead of putting it up for sale.
